Dr Mario Mujica
Translated from French
"I am Dr Mujica, a family doctor originally from Mexico. I’ve been in Canada since 2011. My medical journey began in 2002, and I graduated from medical school in Mexico in 2009. Upon arriving in Canada, I pursued a master's degree at McGill, supported by a scholarship from the Mexican government. During this time, I also completed the equivalent of my medical degree through a family medicine program at the Université de Montréal.
In my earlier years, I had a different vision of family medicine. If not for medicine, I would likely have explored plant or marine biology, drawn to plants, trees, outdoor walks, diving, surfing, and simply being in nature. The complexity of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems remains an aspect of life that still captivates me. However, helping others has always been a crucial element for me, guiding me toward a career in medicine.
Compared to Mexico, where medical practice often focused on patient follow-ups, the diversity of options here, especially in Quebec, intrigued and motivated me to pursue this path. I've explored various aspects and expanded my skills, including minor surgery, infiltrations, and technical procedures. What fills me with pride is when a patient leaves my office satisfied with the service received. A simple 'thank you, that's very kind' is the most wonderful compliment for me. Looking ahead, I see myself continuing as a family doctor, perhaps even in an academic teaching role. I've already started working with family medicine residents, and I like to think the future holds more opportunities for me.
In my life, there are several people who are important to me, especially my parents, who taught me fundamental values, the basics of life: humility, justice, and honesty. They've always supported and pushed me toward personal and professional growth. As a dad, spending time with my daughter brings great joy. While she's still young, my goal is to support her in her career choices, aligning somewhat with the philosophy of my own parents."
