Dre Emily Duong

Translated from French

“Hello! I am Dr. Emily Duong, and I have been a family physician since 2023.

I grew up in Ville Saint-Laurent and graduated from Vanier College before pursuing my medical studies at Université Laval in Quebec City. This journey allowed me to explore various rural areas, such as the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Bas-Saint-Laurent, and New Brunswick. Then, I chose to return to Montreal to begin my family medicine residency at McGill, in the multiethnic neighborhood of Côte-des-Neiges. At the end of my residency, I made a 360-degree turn by returning to my childhood neighborhood to start my practice at the Centre Médical Mieux-Être Saint-Laurent in the fall of 2023. In addition to my clinic practice, I also work at the CHSLD Cartierville.

If I had to describe my practice, I would say it is EXTREME, focusing on both pediatrics and geriatrics. What excites me about these two age extremes is the possibility of developing a holistic approach, taking into account both the physical and psychosocial aspects of patients, often within the context of their families and environments. This privileged contact, even if just for a few minutes, in a constantly moving world, reminds me daily of the reason I pursued medicine: the intellectual and human challenge it represents.

I firmly believe that, above all, we are human beings before we are doctors. Therefore, it is essential to be at peace with this first sphere to evolve well in the second. Thus, I have always believed in the importance of being involved in the Student Aid Network at my university. I was able to reach out to those in need by offering various forms of support, whether through individual advice or by organizing arts and mindfulness workshops. These initiatives, focused on mental health and well-being, allowed me to reconnect with the very essence of family medicine.

Outside of my medical practice, in my free time, I am a content creator passionate about supporting local businesses and sharing my discoveries of destinations in Quebec and around the world! I started creating content in 2017, during my medical studies in Quebec City. For seven years, I have discovered a passion for the artistic side, an element I was missing. This hobby has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone, slow down, and engage with my community. Even today, after long days at work, I actively pursue this passion, and I enjoy being able to unwind and discover new spots in Montreal with my loved ones. For me, it is a life balance essential to my fulfillment in my profession as a family physician.

I look forward to meeting you at one of the CMME locations!”
